Free Credit Review

Published October 16, 2026 · Grants & Co Consultants

A mortgage credit review goes beyond one number. Account history, balances, payment patterns, and reported negative information give the lender context for evaluating the application.

Read the account details

  • Check that accounts belong to you.
  • Review balances, limits, and account status.
  • Compare payment history with your records.
  • Look for duplicate debts or incorrect dates.

Keep a short list of questions beside each item. For example: Is this balance current? Was this account transferred? Does this late-payment entry match the payment record? Specific questions are easier to investigate than a general concern about a low score.

Ask how the information affects your loan

Your lender can explain the model and report used, the loan program under consideration, and any additional conditions. Credit information is reviewed alongside income, debts, assets, and other application details.

If you find an error, collect evidence and use the appropriate dispute process. Share relevant updates with the lender so it can explain whether the change affects the current application. A corrected report is valuable, but it does not predetermine the underwriting result.

Sources and next steps

General education. Requirements and availability can change. Your lender determines eligibility and approval.
